Two and a half hours into a cross-country road trip our car started having mechanical problems near Jackson, TN. We asked around town and were told that Old Hickory Car Care was the most reputable garage in town. They were already open and ready for business by the time we arrived at 7:30 the next morning. We were greeted warmly and professionally. They took the car in right away, diagnosed the problem, talked to us about our options (discouraging us from a more expensive repair on a high mileage vehicle) and had the car fixed and back to us within 90 minutes. They had the part we needed in stock! Price was the exact same that we paid for a similar repair elsewhere. This business gets bonus points from me for hospitality, clean waiting room and restrooms, pleasant outside benches, and free ice cold soft drinks. I can't recommend this place enough. This is my first and probably last review but I just had to share my experience. Our check engine light turned on as we were driving from Memphis to Nashville and we stopped off to have it checked up on. Never having been to this area before, we didn't exactly know what to expect. But every single employee of this store as well as all of the other patrons were absolutely lovely. They were straight up with us about the condition of our car and the price of the repairs, and when they discovered that more work might be necessary, tried very hard to arrange alternative transportation to Nashville for us. Ultimately Michael ended up driving us to a cheap motel down the street and recommended some things we might want to do while we waited for the prognosis on our vehicle. They really made our terrible experience as enjoyable as possible. Please for your own sake don't go to any other car repair shop in Jackson, none of them could possibly be as good as this one. - Jake G.

The best mechanics you can hope for. I am in the army and was driving through Jackson when my heater core burst. I called them and unfortunately they couldn't fix it that day due to it being a 7 hour job but they did a bypass and filled me up with antifreeze so I could get where I was going. Fast, friendly, and they didn't charge me a dime. If they were in my home town I would use them for everything. The world needs more people like these folks. God bless - Donathan K.

On this past 4th of July weekend our Jeep broke down near Exit 143 on Hwy I-40 South of Nashville and was towed (Thanks to AAA) 65 miles South to the Old Hickory Car Care (AAA Approved) in Jackson, TN. Upon arrival, Mr. Ragan (Proprietor) immediately asked his top technician to diagnose the matter. Within 30 minutes the technician determined the problem which resulted in us leaving our vehicle there over the weekend because of the upcoming holiday.

We gladly accepted that proposal and agreed to their suggested fix. We also agreed on a price and our Jeep was ready within the next work day after the holiday. Wow! "Great Service" on a "hand shake"....We're not use to this type of customer care in our local area.

It is a law that independent automotive repairs shops can maintain and service your warranty. All consumers are protected by the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, that is enforced by Federal Trade Commission (FTC). It prohibits a manufacturer from voiding the new vehicles warranty or a vehicles extended warranty because service was performed by a Non-Dealer/Independent Repair shop.

Per the FTC, “It's illegal for a dealer to deny your warranty coverage simply because you had warranty work or routine maintenance or repairs performed by our automotive shop. Routine maintenance can include anything from oil changes, tire rotations and belt replacement, to fluid checks, flushes, new brake pads and inspections.” It is also important to note that the “Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes it illegal for a company to void your warranty or deny coverage under the warranty for the simple cause that you used an aftermarket or recycled part.”

One of the major perks to bringing your vehicle to an independent repair shop is the ability to make your money go further. Many times, warranties will have a limit or a deductible. Our goal is to make your warranty work for you.

Lastly, If you are on the fence about whether or not to purchase an AFTERMARKET or EXTENDED warranty. We suggest opening a savings account for your car and putting back money for possible breakdowns. While warranties are great the limitations can sometimes outweigh the benefits.
